Cyberattacks on the Port of Los Angeles have doubled since the pandemic. The number of cyberattacks targeting the Port of Los Angeles is monthly around 40 million.

Cyberattacks mostly come from Europe and Russia and expect to disturb the US economy, Mr.Seroka executive director of Los Angeles Port said.

Los Angeles is the most active port on the western side of the equator, dealing with more than $250bn (£210bn) of freight every year.

“Our intelligence shows the threats are coming from Russia and parts of Europe. We have to stay steps ahead of those who want to hurt international commerce,”

Seaports move billions of dollars in merchandise consistently, making them a unique target for cyber-criminals.

Port of Los Angeles daily faces attacks of ransomware, malware, spear phishing, and credential harvesting attacks, to cause as much disruption as possible and slow down the economy.

Port of Los Angeles is now working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s cyber-crime team to prevent attacks and improve network safety.

The port has put great efforts and millions of dollars into digital security, creating and developing one of the world’s first Cyber Resilience Centres, which is part of the FBI.

“We must take every precaution against potential cyber-incidents, particularly those that could threaten or disrupt the flow of cargo,” said Mr. Seroka told BBC.
